Police went to assist a driver who had a tyre blow-out on his way home – only to find he had been drinking throughout the day.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that officers smelt alcohol off the breath of 38-year-old Jonathon Clay, of Abertarff Place, Fort Augustus.
He had been returning from a dinner date with a friend on May 26 this year when he was caught with almost four times the permitted amount of alcohol in his system.
He admitted the offence yesterday, was fined £700 and banned from driving for 16 months.
