A Highland man who is rowing across the Atlantic in his home-made boat has received a surprise boost out of the blue from Rangers’ boss Steven Gerrard.
Duncan Hutchison has now passed 2,000 miles from where he started his bid in America to his Lochinver home.
Strong winds and currents have slowed Mr Hutchison’s progress at times – confining him to his cabin to ride out the conditions on several occasions.
At the end of Saturday, his 65th day at sea, Mr Hutchison had rowed a total of 2,775 miles and was 2,045 miles from where his journey began. But he was still 1,503 miles from Lochinver – as the crows flies.
But Rangers’ manager and former Liverpool star Gerrard has written to Mr Hutchison to encourage him on.
He said: “I heard you are a huge Rangers supporter and that you are currently taking part in a gruelling challenge rowing across the North Atlantic Ocean.
“On behalf of all the players and staff at Rangers Football Club, I would like to take this opportunity to send you our very best wishes and a safe return. Thank you for your continued support.”
Mr Hutchison’s son Clarke, 21, said: ”No matter who you support, we can all agree he’s a great guy for doing this, it’ll give my dad a huge boost…let’s hope he doesn’t slip up in the second half of his journey.”
