Primary school pupils in Inverness and Ross-shire are being encouraged to show their creative side by drawing a birthday card in celebration of Kessock lifeboat’s 25th anniversary.

The local lifeboat crew are hosting the competition in collaboration with their impending open day on Saturday, September 8 to mark their milestone anniversary.

Entries from pupils will be submitted into three separate categories including primary one and two, primary three and four and finally primary five to seven, with the winner from each receiving a £15 prize and an RNLI goodie bag.

Each card should be displayed on a one sided sheet of white paper, with the child’s name, category and a contact number for an over 18 parent or guardian written overleaf.

The crew are hoping the competition will give youngsters an insight into the general workings of the RNLI, as well as a basic and important knowledge of water safety.

Dan Holland, volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer for RNLI Kessock said: “RNLI are keen to point out water safety and water awareness and we want to get the message across to as many people as possible.

“We know young people love lifeboats and we feel this is a great way to get young people in Primary Schools across inverness and Ross-shire to draw a birthday card and give them some really good water safety advice.

“It’s really important to get these water safety messaged across to young people and by drawing us a birthday card to help us celebrate they will learn what the RNLI are all about, what we do and what’s at the heart of what we are trying to get across. It will show them how to stay out of danger in the water, know how to call for help and how to look out for other people and if that comes across when they are making their cards, then that’s great.”

Highland Dental Plan have also thrown their support behind the competition with a generous £150 donation.
