Hundreds of people queued along the street yesterday as the M&S Foodhall opened in Oban.
Store manager Stuart MacKinnon was joined by his new colleague, local man Christopher Knowles, and the 48-strong store team as they cut the ribbon in front of around 300 customers at Oban Retail Park.
Customers were treated to a display by Oban High School Pipe Band, and greeted in-store by Oban Camanagh “legends” from the last cup winning team.
M&S mascot Percy Pig also got into the Highland spirit and dressed in a kilt for the occasion to welcome a group of pupils from nearby schools: Rockfield Primary School, St Columbas Primary School and Park Primary School.
MP for Argyll and Bute, Brendan O’Hara, said: “I’m really pleased that M&S has marked their confidence in Oban as a destination of choice with the opening of their new store. I welcome the diversity of choice for those who live, work and visit here.”
