The A82 has now fully reopened after a two vehicle collision near Urquhart Castle left five people injured.
The alarm was raised around 4pm with police, fire service and the air ambulance attending the scene.
The Fire Service reported there were five casualties but their condition was not known.
The appliances responded from nearby Drumnadrochit as well as Inverness and had to free people from the wreckage by cutting the roof of one car and the door of the second car.
The incident near one of the country’s top tourist attractions resulted in serious localised traffic congestion.
Locals writing online spoke of seeing five ambulances heading out of Drumnadrochit towards Fort William while also remarking that traffic was close to “stationary” in the area.
Earlier Traffic Scotland warned that the busy A82 trunk road was “restricted in both directions between Drumnadrochit and Urquhart due to a road traffic incident.”
Police confirmed the road had fully reopened by 6.30pm.
