Rescue volunteers were launched to help two workmen in the Cromarty Firth on Thursday following reports of a man entering the water.
The pair were undertaking mooring operations on board their vessel when the incident occurred, sparking a response from the Invergordon Lifeboat team.
RNLI lifeboat crew were paged by Aberdeen Coastguard to the scene shortly before 2.30pm launching their Trent Class lifeboat, ‘Douglas Aikman Smith’, with seven crew on board.
Upon arrival, one male was found complaining of chest pains after being struck by a rope; meanwhile, his fellow colleague who had entered the Firth remained uninjured but began to feel the effects of being in the cold water.
Both casualties were transferred on board the lifeboat back to Invergordon’s West Harbour, the Port of the Cromarty Firth where paramedics awaited their arrival.
The injured male has since been discharged from hospital with cracked ribs but is expected to make a full recovery.
