An Oban man is being reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with a second death at a block of flats on Monday.
Oskars Rancevs, 32, appeared in private at Dumbarton Sheriff Court this charged with the murder of Martyn Smith, 73.
Last night police confirmed: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 32-year-old man will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with the death of John White, 75, who was found within a flat in Columba Court, Oban, around 8pm on Monday October 1.
“He has already appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court, on Tuesday October 2, in connection with the death of 73-year-old Martyn Smith, who died following an incident at Columba Court on Monday October 1 2018.”
Police were originally called to Columba Court in the Dunollie area of Oban at 9.40am on Monday following reports of an elderly man being seriously assaulted.
Martyn Smith, 73, was taken to Lorn and Islands Hospital, where he later died.
The body of John White was discovered at 8pm on the same day in a flat at Columba Court. He had suffered from a heart attack.
