Firefighters are this morning re-inspecting a luxury hotel in the Highlands – which hosted the marriage of Madonna and film director Guy Ritchie – after tackling a blaze last night.
The alarm was raised shortly before 8.20pm at Skibo Castle in Dornoch, Sutherland.
Six fire engines and about 40 firefighters attended the scene and two people were brought to safety as another 40 guests were moved to alternative accommodation in the grounds.
The blaze spread through the roof space of the building, but was quickly “contained” at about 9.45pm.
It is believed the fire started in a chimney before spreading along the roof space.
Group Manager Mark Loynd from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “This was a challenging incident and our firefighters worked hard alongside partners to bring this fire under control.”
A spokeswoman for the fire service said fire crews had returned this morning to re-inspect Skibo Castle and ensure it was all safe.
The four-storey building played host to the wedding of Madonna and Guy Ritchie in 2000.
