The prime minister has been urged to take action to tackle the “unfair” delivery charges facing people living in the Highlands and Islands.
Liberal Democrat MP Jamie Stone, who represents Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, put pressure on Theresa May at Prime Minister’s Questions in the Commons yesterday.
Calling for a royal commission to consider how extra charges could be eliminated, he said: “This is a wholly unfair geography tax on my constituents.”
SNP Westminster Leader Ian Blackford welcomed the intervention and said he would reach out to the Lib Dems with a view to taking on the issue together.

He told the Press and Journal: “This is an absolute disgrace. It’s a tax on living in the Highlands.
“I would be very happy to work on a cross-party basis on these things.”
Mrs May said her government had taken the price of parcel surcharges seriously, pointing to the establishment of the consumer protection partnership.
She added: “I am sure that the relevant minister from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy will be happy to discuss the matter further.”
