Additional emergency service resources were sent to the Glenshiel area last night after telephone services collapsed.
BT swiftly sent engineers to the Highlands to resolve the problem amidst fears the safety of residents, who were left unable to use landlines, could be at risk.
In a social media post published online, police made an urgent appeal to residents to avoid making non-urgent calls to ensure the available mainlines could be used in the eventuality of an emergency.
A police spokesman issued advice to the public saying: “If you have an emergency, you should first try both landline or mobile telephones to call 999.
“If this does not work, flag down any emergency service vehicle that is not using their blue lights, or go to the nearest police station, hospital, fire or ambulance station to report the emergency.”
Additional police patrols were dedicated to the affected area, while fire and ambulance resources were sent to other visible locations.
