Police are urging businesses to be on the look out after further incidents where counterfeit bank notes have been used in the Highlands.
The most recent incidents happened yesterday in the Kingussie and Newtonmore areas and follow similar incidents in the Nairn area last week.
All of the notes recovered have been identical and designed to look like £50 notes issued by the First Trust Bank, based in Northern Ireland.
Each of these notes bears the same serial number of BA389087.
The previous incidents in Nairn have involved two men, described as speaking with Irish accents. The more recent incidents in Badenoch is reported to have involved a woman.
Preventions and Interventions officer Constable Katy Duncan said: ” We are urging members of the public, particularly retail workers who deal with cash sales, to check bank notes matching this description before completing the transaction.
“The notes which have been recovered so far do look plausible at first glance so it is important you check any notes matching this description thoroughly, including checking for this identical serial number.
“Any such notes should not be accepted and police should be contacted immediately.
“Anyone who suspects they may have received one of these notes or who has information about those using them should call police on 101, quoting NM3028/18, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
