Two people have been charged in connection with the use of counterfeit currency in Caithness, police have confirmed.
A 27-year-old man and a woman, 24, have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal and will appear at Wick Sheriff Court in due course.
Constable Craig Sutherland said: “We are grateful for the support of local businesses which has allowed officers to take prompt action in this case.
“In general we would continue to urge retail workers who deal with cash sales to be vigilant and check bank notes thoroughly before completing the transaction.
“Please report any concerns to Police Scotland on 101 to allow officers to act, as in this recent case in Caithness.”
Officers from the Highlands and Islands Preventions and Interventions Unit will be visiting businesses across the region this week in the build-up to Black Friday and the festive period.
They will be offering advice about how to identify counterfeit bank notes, shoplifting and other aspects of retail crime.
