An ex-detective has made impassioned plea to the killer of Nairn banker Alistair Wilson in a new book published ahead of the 14th anniversary of the tragedy.
Peter Bleksley, who worked undercover for the Met Police in London, travelled to Scotland to research the unsolved case for his book, To Catch a Killer.
He strives to provide a fresh insight into the mysterious murder, but admits it may have “raised more questions that it has answered”.
He states: “During this mini tour, a member of the public posed the question, ‘have you solved it?’.
“I’ve been asked this question many times and of course I have to admit that I haven’t, not yet anyway.”
Mr Bleksley who appears as The Chief in Channel 4’s Hunted, concludes the book with “a message to a murderer”.
He writes: “I’m utterly convinced that one way or another, you’ll get to read this. I doubt whether you’ve paid for this book – you don’t strike me as that kind of person. I suspect you’ve probably shoplifted it or stolen it from a library.
“Maybe you’ve borrowed this book from a friend or a relative; less likely perhaps because I doubt you live a life full of love and affection.”
He adds: “Credit where it’s due, you’ve done a remarkable job of evading capture for a very long time, although the police investigation wasn’t the best, was it?
“You must be just a bit concerned by this book and the renewed police activity. This case is not going away and nor am I. So how about you put the record straight?”
Father-of-two Alistair Wilson was shot three times on the doorstep of his home in the seaside town of Nairn on November 28, 2004.
The weapon was later traced in a drain, but police have never caught the killer.
Detective Superintendent Graeme Mackie said: “The investigation into the murder of Alistair Wilson is active and we continue to review several possible motives around his death and will investigate any new information we receive.
“Officers from the enquiry team have previously met and corresponded with Mr Bleksley when he was invited to share any new information he has with us. To date, he has declined to do so.
“As this is an ongoing, active investigation, we are unable to comment on speculation and we cannot share sensitive material with a member of the public.
“Our priority is to solve this murder in order to bring the person responsible to justice, for the sake of Alistair’s family who understandably want answers.”
