A 23-year-old drug user who stole £10 worth of deodorant from the Asda store in Inverness asked to be jailed so he could “get his head together”.
Ryan Grant, of Union Street, Inverness, appeared from custody and admitted the theft by shoplifting on November 9.
He also pleaded guilty to damaging walls, a cooker and electrical sockets on October 1 in the house of multiple occupancy in Baron Taylor’s Street where he was then staying.
The cost of repairs was estimated at £3,000.
Defence solicitor David Patterson told Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood: “He has found his period of remand has been good for him as it has allowed him to get his head together.
“He is asking for a jail sentence to allow this to continue.”
Grant was jailed for six months backdated to November 9.
