Highland councillors yesterday approved community plans for a new toilet block in Mallaig.
The Road to the Isles Facilities Group has been awarded £300,000 by the Scottish Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund for their Mallaig and Traigh public toilet project in West Bay car park.
Their plans include a single storey public toilet building with shower facility and accessible toilet.
The building is to be finished in oak wall cladding, with a natural slate pitched roof and solar panels.
Plans for a motor home standing area and grey water discharge next to the building were removed from the application due to public concerns.
Local councillor Ben Thompson said: “There is a strong need for summer infrastructure along the west coast, it’s part of a package of things the community wants to happen.”
