A lifeboat crew in the west of Scotland have raised more than £1,000 to help them stay afloat in the New Year.
Oban Lifeboat’s fundraising group have been busy fundraising throughout the entire month of December to raise funds for the lifesaving crew within their local community.
During the month long venture, the group held their first pop-up shop within McCaig’s Warehouse on the sea front.
The stall, open every Saturday in December had plenty on offer, from Christmas cards to calendars and souvenirs.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, December 22 fundraisers were joined by a group of carol singers drawn from a multitude of local based choirs – led by Joy Mills and accompanied by accordion and fiddle – adding some festive cheer to proceedings.
All takings from the event will contribute towards the running of the station enabling their volunteer crew to continue saving lives at sea.
Following an outpour of public support, the RNLI crew have issued a vote of thanks for those who gave so much to the cause.
Phil Hamerton, from Oban lifeboat’s fundraising team said: “The four days’ sales in McCaig’s Warehouse bring December’s total sales to just over £1,000. The combination of carol-singing and the Lifeboat’s presence on 22nd December added to the festive cheer and, again, visitors and residents generously added to the collection.”
Mr Hamerton added: “2019 is looking like an exciting year for our fundraising team with lots of events scheduled throughout the year.”
