Rescue teams have found a hillwalker who was reported missing in “appalling” weather conditions this evening – but their condition remains unknown.
Braemar, Aberdeen and Cairngorm mountain rescue teams were all dispatched at around 3.30pm to reports of an injured climber of the Cairngorm Plateau, near Ben Macdui, the highest mountain the Cairngorms National Park and the second highest mountain in the UK.
A spokesman for the Braemar team said: “Team called out this afternoon to central Cairngorms for ongoing mountain rescue incident.
“Aberdeen Mountain rescue Team and Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team also deploying.
“Weather conditions appalling.”
The teams battled against high winds as they searched the area for the wounded walker.
The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team has now provided an update, stating that the person has been found.
The group tweeted: “We have located missing person and are arranging evacuation.
“This will be protracted, given the weather conditions.
“No update on casualty condition currently available.”
Ben Macdui lies north-west of Braemar, and south-east of Aviemore.
