A fresh severe weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for the north of Scotland.
The north-east is predicted to avoid the worst of the conditions but the yellow be aware warning covers the entirety of the Highlands and islands region.
It begins at 3pm today and lasts until 11am tomorrow. An earlier warning cover much of the central belt and the west Highlands expires at noon.
The weather warnings issued by the Met Office. The one covering the entire Highlands and islands begins at 3pm.
The Met Office’s chief forecaster said: “Further snow showers are expected Tuesday evening and overnight into Wednesday morning, these more frequent across northwest parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
“Expect 1-3cm of fresh snow even down to very low levels in places, but locally around 5cm across the Northern Highlands.
“Temperatures dropping below freezing later this afternoon will result in ice forming onto untreated surfaces.”
