Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road accident in the Highlands earlier today.
It happened at 10.45am on the A835 close to the junction with the B9163 to Conon Bridge.
The incident involved a red Nissan Note which had been travelling south and a northbound black Peugeot 207.
A male driver and female passenger – both 86-years-old – were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness following the collision.
The woman is described as having sustained serious injuries.
The occupants of the Peugeot were uninjured.
The road reopened shortly before 2.45pm following an investigation by officers from the road policing unit at the scene.
Sergeant Donnie Mackinnon said: “Our inquiries into this collision are ongoing and I would urge anyone with information which could help us to come forward.
“I would ask anyone who may have dashcam footage of the vehicles or witnessed the collision to get in touch as soon as possible.
“Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1054 of February 13.”
