A unique super silent auction is to take place to benefit a remote community hall in Lochaber, with some extraordinary prizes.
Knoydart, mainland Britain’s last wilderness, is only accessible by boat or via an 18-mile hike over hilltops and some of Scotland’s most stunning scenery.
The Knoydart Community Hall, a whitewashed 1950s post-war building, is located in Inverie and is set to undergo a huge transformation – thanks to the mammoth fundraising efforts of the local community.
Around three-quarters of the funding has been secured after more than £30,000, which was raised through a crowdfunding appeal last year, was matched by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to allow building work to begin in May.
Over 20 prizes are now being auctioned by the community, including grandstand tickets for the British GP at Silverstone with dinner and refreshments at the exclusive British Racing Drivers Club and an exclusive guided tour of the Tunnocks factory.
The new hall will continue to provide a key location for more than 100 community activities every year, including public meetings, social events and get-togethers.
The refurbishment is set to retain the rustic look of the present building with a larger stage, dedicated meeting rooms and new toilets, outdoor spaces and a modern kitchen to be incorporated into the building.
The community now hope the silent auction will aid in getting them to that elusive total, with bidding on the auction commencing on Friday, March 8.
