The memory of a special little boy has been honoured with a generous donation to the special baby care unit at Raigmore Hospital.
The Kian Grant Precious Star Memorial Trust donated £7,616.52, which will be put towards a thermo cot for the unit.
This is an open cot which can warm the baby. It is also easier for parents to touch or cuddle their baby as it doesn’t have the barrier that incubators have.
The trust donated £16,000 SCBU in 2014 to buy an incubator.
Kian Grant died in October 2011 at the age of 10 weeks. He had spent nine weeks in the special care baby unit in Inverness after he was born 12 weeks premature. The trust was set up by his family in May 2013.
Kian’s mum Hayley, from Wick, said: “We wanted to say thank you to the unit for everything they did for Kian and for us as a family.
“It has been more successful than any of us imagined. The response from the people of Caithness has been overwhelming. We’ve had individual donations, donations given in lieu of birthday or anniversary presents and there have been numerous fundraising events held.”
