A cyclist was yesterday seriously injured after a collision involving a car and a bike on a busy Highland road.
The incident occurred around a quarter of a mile north of the Rowan Tree Country Hotel at 3.25pm on the former A9 road, which spans between Aviemore and Kingussie.
Emergency crews arrived to find a silver Kia car had collided with a black road bike.
Both the bonnet and the windscreen of the car were damaged and muddy tyre marks were left on the road.
The rear wheel of the bicycle and pedals ended up trapped underneath the nearside front wheel of the car.
The cyclist was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness after paramedics arrived at the scene.
As a result of the incident, police closed the B9152 road between Kincraig and its junction with the A9.
Motorists were diverted on to alternative routes whilst emergency services attended the scene of the accident.
Last night a police spokeswoman said: “Motorists are asked to take alternative routes where possible.
“Diversion signage will be put in place and the road is expected to be closed for a significant time.”
