The countdown to the 26th coveted World Porridge Making Championships is now underway with the date for this year’s event scheduled for October.
The annual extravaganza will return to Carrbridge Village Hall on October 11-12 with entries for this years competition opening tomorrow.
The championships are a celebration of oats and porridge making and showcase the health benefits and quirky cooking methods championship competitors implement on the deliciously popular breakfast item.
Contestants on both Friday and Saturday will vie to produce the best traditional porridge, using only oatmeal, water and salt, with competitors also being judged on the best speciality dish.
Budding competitors have three months to submit entries.
Friday’s Silver Spurtle event is reserved for young people aged between eight and 16, with the main Golden Spurtle event for adults to take place on Saturday October 12.
Organisers of the event are made up entirely from Carrbridge residents, displaying a fine example of a community-led local economic development, with the championships used to promote Carrbridge to a wider audience.
Hamlyns of Scotland has renewed their sponsorship of the event, with Centurion Plumbing Services (Scotland) Ltd sponsoring the Silver Spurtle competition.
