A driver had to be cut free from his vehicle yesterday after his Volkswagen car left the A862 road from Inverness to Beauly and landed on its roof.
The incident occurred shortly before 1.30pm near Inchmore, around eight miles outside Inverness.
The Volkswagen Golf was the sole vehicle involved in the crash with police, fire and ambulance personnel all in attendance.
UPDATE:
The man had to be cut free from the vehicle by firefighters after he found himself trapped following the crash, before being transported to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for further treatment.
Last night a police spokesman was unable to confirm the extent of the man’s injuries.
A police spokesman said: “One male has been taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness with concern over his injuries. At this moment in time, we do not have information relating to his condition.”
As a result of the incident, a lengthy road closure was put in place to allow officers to conduct inquiries to establish the circumstances that led to the Volkswagen vehicle leaving the road, ending up in a field some distance from the road.
Road signs were put in place by the Highland Council’s roads department at both the Inverness and Beauly ends of the road to alert motorists of the diversion via the A832 and A9 roads over the Kessock Bridge.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “We received a call from a member of the public at 1.34pm and sent two crews from Inverness to the incident.
“Upon arriving there was a request for the heavy rescue unit from Inverness to attend and a retained crew from Inverness was also sent.
“Hydraulic cutting gear has been used, as has stabilising gear and heavy rescue hydraulic gear to cut open the vehicle to extricate the occupant.
“A stop message was received at 2.35pm with crews leaving the scene around 3pm.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 1322 hours today to attend a road traffic incident on the A862 Inverness to Beauly Road.
“One ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed to Raigmore Hospital for further treatment.”
