Police had to use a pepper spray to restrain a drunk driver who became violent after he was stopped by officers in Newtonmore.
Off-shore electrician Ross Sweeney, of Greenend Gardens, Edinburgh, refused to give his details or give breath specimens when asked for them in Golf Road on October 7 last year.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 38-year-old Sweeney then struggled violently as they tried to place him under arrest.
Sweeney admitted the three offences.
His defence solicitor Duncan Henderson told the court: “Drinking had got a hold of his life at that time.”
Sweeney, who earns £1,000 a week, was fined a total of £1280 and banned from driving for a year by Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald.
