A parade marking the start of the annual Scottish Six Days Trial in Fort William took place yesterday.
More than 300 bikers and riders travelled through the west coast High Street prior to competitions taking place throughout Lochaber’s Highland terrain over the next six days.
Joining the competitors were police outriders, veterans from the Pre-65 trial that took place in Kinlochleven over the weekend, and some very tall dinosaurs on motocross bikes.
Hundreds of people from all over the country witnessed the annual event in bright sunshine, and a few brief rain showers, to watch.
Aikemo Yamamoto, who was visiting the event from Kyoto in Japan, told the Press and Journal: “It is a dream come true to come to the Highlands to watch all these riders in the town.
“We have a bike in Japan and the hillsides around Kyoto are very similar to the terrain you have here.”
Dad John Wilson had brought his two kids along to see the event, he said: “I have two boys and a girl – it would be good to see at least one – if not both of them – lift the trophy in the future.”
The Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) is mainly focused on the Lochaber area of Scotland over long distances each day of up to 100 miles.
The Scottish Six Days Trail allows less experienced riders to compete with professional and world class riders.
The Lochaber-based trial has a reputation for being the toughest in the world, and it is the most prestigious event that a trials rider can win.
