A team from the Fire Investigation Unit will shortly be on scene at an iconic pub on the Isle of Mull after a fire devastated the building overnight.
The fire, that it it is believed to have started in the building’s roof space, has destroyed MacGochan’s bar and restaurant in Tobermory.
Four appliances were on scene from 4.38am with officers using high pressure jets, breathing apparatus and thermal imaging to bring the blaze under control.
No one was injured, it has been confirmed.
Pub owner Neil Morrison said his first concern was that no one was injured.
One islanders told the P&J: “Everyone is safe, but it looks like the fire started in Bar Beag and the main pub has also been destroyed.”
A spokeswoman for the Fire and Rescue Service said: “We can confirm that there has been a building fire in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.
“Four appliances were in attendance. We were called to the scene at 4.38am. The fire was brought under control by 7.36am. Watch commander Iain Noble, from Tobermory, gave the stop sign.
“Police have been in attendance.
“We have not been informed of any injury by crews on the scene.”
Crews have left the scene, and accident investigators will shortly start to assess the damage for clues to the fires source.
