A coastguard search and helicopter was earlier this morning providing assistance to an injured crewman on a North Sea oil platform.
A call was received by the Coastguard Operations Centre in Shetland at 7.45am today to attend the North Cormorant Oil Platform, situated approximately 100 miles to the north-east of Shetland.
It is understood the crewman has sustained an injury to his finger.
Rescue 900 from Sumburgh was tasked to the incident, leaving base shortly after 9am.
A spokeswoman said: “We were earlier today assisting with a med evac from an oil platform in the North Sea.
“We received reports of an injured crewman on the North Cormorant Oil Platform and sent a search and rescue helicopter to assist.
“The crewman was uplifted at 9.45am before the helicopter touched down at Tingwall at 10.40am. The casualty was them transferred by ambulance to the Gilbert Bain Hospital.”
A spokeswoman for Taqa, who operate the platform, said: “Taqa can confirm that it is supporting the medical evacuation of a member of crew on board its North Cormorant platform.
“The individual is being flown by the Coastguard this morning to receive medical attention for a finger injury.”
