The future of three Highland primary schools was considered by councillors yesterday.
Altnaharra primary school will be formally closed, councillors on Care, Learning and Housing (CLH) committee agreed.
The school has been mothballed since 2017, and there is currently only one child of primary or pre-school age, currently attending Tongue primary, in the catchment area.
Figures show there will be no pupils for the school until at least 2023 and possibly beyond.
The catchment will now be divided up among Tongue, Farr and Lairg primary schools.
Two further Highland primaries will go out to statutory consultation about their future.
Uig Primary School has been mothballed since the end of session 2009/10, when the roll fell to two pupils.
Council officials say re-opening it would have a negative educational impact on pupils from Uig, and those at Kilmuir primary where Uig catchment pupils have been attending since 2010.
The statutory consultation will now start with a public meeting in Uig on Tuesday June 4, and run through until the end of August.
A final recommendation is likely to come forward to CLH committee in December.
Stoer primary is also proposed for formal closure.
The school has been mothballed since July 2016, with current projections suggesting a maximum roll of six P1-7 pupils within the school’s catchment over the next few years.
The council is proposing that Stoer’s catchment area be assigned to Lochinver primary.
Statutory consultation will now proceed with a public meeting in Stoer on Monday June 24 and final recommendations brought to CLH committee early next year.
