The crash, which involved a van, occurred at about 12.40am near to Inverinate. Two people were injured as a result of the early morning smash, with one seriously injured and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow. As a result of the crash, the vital route to the islands was closed for nearly nine hours. A police spokesman said: “The road was closed to allow emergency services to attend to the scene, with a diversion route set up for waiting motorists. “The route was fully reopened to the public around 9.15am.” Two fire crews from nearby Kyle of Lochalsh and Broadford on Skye also were in attendance. A fire service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 12.46am to attend to the incident. “No equipment was in use as the casualties were out of the vehicle by the time our crews arrived. “Our firefighters assisted police at the scene and a stop message was received at 1.51am.”
