Members of the LGBT community in Inverness have reason to celebrate after the Proud Ness event scooped the top prize for the community category of the inaugural Proud Scotland Awards.
The event, which was put on for the first time in 2018, brings together the community and wider public to celebrate a day of colour and magic through the streets of Inverness.
The parade beat off stern competition, including their close neighbours in Orkney who run the NetworQ North event.
The awards ceremony in the Hilton Glasgow was attended by team members Tony Carter and Melody Legge.
Jess Taylor, chairwoman of Proud Ness, said: “We are absolutely over the moon and just ecstatic.”
Ms Taylor added: “Proud Ness very much came into being to tackle loneliness and exclusion and really is designed to ensure there is something for everyone in the Highlands.
“The award represents the work of last year’s team and this year’s team and is very much a joint effort.
“For us, it also recognises just how massive an event we now have, which to many would have seemed pretty unachievable a few years ago.
“To win an award when we are so new – it’s just fantastic.”
Despite competing against one another for the award, plans are in place for Proud Ness and NetworQ North to come together in the coming months at the former’s event next month, which is due to take place on July 21.
