The busy A99 Latheron to Wick road has reopened following a closure at Thrumster after a bus caught fire earlier this afternoon.
The incident was first reported 2.37pm and demanded the attention of the fire service and police.
Two buses were ablaze, with firefighters from Wick and John O Groats battling to bring it under control.
A road closure was put in place, however, restrictions were lifted around 3.50pm.
No injuries were reported.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 2.37pm to reports of a bus on fire on the A99 at Thrumster.
“Two appliances, one from Wick and one from John O’Groats, were sent to the scene with four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and two main jets in use.
“Our crews were able to extinguish the fire before dampening down the vehicle.
“A stop message was received at 3.31pm.”
Thick black smoke had been seen billowing from the bus, with flames of around 40-foot reported by locals in the area.
