The west coast has been named as a “hope spot” for marine conservation thanks to the hard work of a college lecturer and a team of community groups.
The Mission Blue Hope Spot is an international scheme which recognises the beauty, history and vibrant life of particular areas.
And it is hoped the award will raise the profile of the west coast’s unique marine ecosystem.
The Community Association Of Lochs And Sounds, Craignish Restoration of Marine and Coastal Habitat, Friends of the Sound of Jura and Save Seil Sound combined forces to secure the badge of honour.
The groups hope the distinction will help ensure that any development around the area is mindful of the unique nature of the coast and its waters.
West Highland College UHI congratulated its BA (Hons) Marine and Coastal Tourism lecturer, Annabel Lawrence, who helped with the campaign.
A spokeswoman said said: “Our students are very fortunate indeed to be able to take advantage of such wonderful coastal waters on their doorstep.”
