Police re-deployed to Highland rig as Greenpeace protests continue
ByReporter
Police have again been deployed on to a Highland rig that has been the scene of protests this week.
Around 10 officers disembarked onto the BP-operated platform from a helicopter at 1.40pm.
After dropping its passengers off the helicopter left the scene, although it was shortly replaced by a Police Scotland helicopter which at 2.10pm was continuously circling the Paul B Loyd Jr rig.
Protesters remain on the leg of the rig, where they have held their territory since 4am today.
A police spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that proportionate measures were in place to provide security for the rig in conjunction with the industry.”
Our reporter Chris MacLennan is at the scene and will provide updates as they come in.
