A team of 12 revellers from the Highlands have saddled up for their fundraising journey to one of the UK’s largest music festivals.
The volunteers from Scottish Water departed from Fort William on Sunday morning on the first leg of their fundraising cycle, dubbed Blasto to Glasto, covering over 500 miles to the world-famous Glastonbury festival at Worthy Farm in Somerset.
The team are raising funds along the way for both WaterAid and Highland Hospice, with the challenge expected to take three days.
Upon arrival at the festival, the team will roll up their lycra sleeves to take up volunteering posts at the festival, keeping 2500 toilets on site clean and tidy as part of WaterAid’s Loo Crew.
As part of their volunteering role, the hardy band of fundraisers will also talk to fellow festival-goers about the importance of clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene across the globe.
Scottish Water fundraiser, Garry Noakes, said: “This is the fifth time we have undertaken a cycle challenge to raise money for both WaterAid and Highland Hospice and we are all very excited to hit the road again.
“This year we wanted to expand the challenge to incorporate some volunteering and Glastonbury offered the perfect opportunity for us to work directly with WaterAid.
“We all feel very passionately about helping to raise much-needed funds for these important charities that are doing incredible work, both locally and across the world. We hope to raise as much as we possibly can and are extremely grateful for the support we have been shown so far.”
Prior to embarking on the challenge, the team had already raised over £3,500.
