What a birdie: a first glimpse of an island chick shows it is keen to be in on all the island golfing action.
The first photograph of this year’s sea eagle chick at the Mull Eagle Watch has been released – it shows the parents of the six-week-old eaglet have chosen a rather busy spot for their nest – at Craignure Golf Club.
The chick has already been ringed and checked under a Scottish Natural Heritage licence, as part of a long term sea eagle monitoring project on the island.
The nest determines where the popular Mull Eagle Watch is based for the season – and this year the nest at Craignure where golf has been played since 1895, hopes to welcome thousands of visitors to the island.
RSPB Mull officer Dave Sexton said: “Sea eagles are a vital part of Mull and Scotland’s biodiversity and can also be a wildlife tourism asset to fragile local communities.
“Thousands of people visit us each year to see iconic species like sea eagles and golden eagles and spend millions on Scottish goods and services. Mull Eagle Watch has been running for nearly 20 years winning awards, gaining a five star wildlife expereince rating from VisitScotland and helping to protect these very special Scottish birds of prey”
Mull Eagle Watch can be visited from now until the end of September and is open from Sunday to Friday every week.
