A former head of the Kirk – who married pop star Madonna and director Guy Ritchie – has been awarded an honorary doctorate.
The Very Reverend Susan Brown was recognised for her contribution to the church and to the communities of the Highlands and Islands.
The former moderator of the Church of Scotland General Assembly, was given the honour by Highlands and Islands University.
She was presented with the title at the Highland Theological College UHI graduation ceremony in Dingwall, alongside 40 graduating students.
Mrs Brown said: “I am deeply touched to be considered for such an honour and humbled to receive it.
“For me, the Highlands and Islands University does what the Highlands does best, in offering creative, imaginative, welcoming ways for people to grow and flourish.”
Mrs Brown has been a minister in the region for more than 30 years.
Originally from Penicuik near Edinburgh, she moved to the region in 1985 to serve at Killearnan Church on the Black Isle.
After 13 years, she moved to Dornoch, where she became the first woman to take charge of a cathedral in the UK.
Mrs Brown conducted marriage ceremonies for Madonna and Guy Ritchie, as well as for technology billionaire Elon Musk and actress Tallulah Riley, and Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti.
Mrs Brown also baptised Madonna and Ritchie’s son Rocco.
She was appointed as a Chaplain to the Queen in 2011 and completed a term as the moderator in May.
The post allowed her to meet people from across Scotland and to travel to Argentina, Uruguay, India and Pakistan to discuss issues including mental health, domestic abuse and inter-faith relations.
