Surfers have celebrated the opening of a new base at Thurso, overlooking the town’s world-famous reef break.
North Shore Surf Club staged an opening party at the weekend to mark the completion of the £175,000 venture.
The wooden-clad, single-storey building houses showers, toilets, a meeting room and store.
An annexe will provide much-needed shelter for people watching the national and international competitions which are staged there.
The adjoining piece of ground has been tarred for car parking while steps have been created to provide easier access down the four-metre slope to the rocky foreshore.
The project has been spearheaded by Thurso Rotary Club, whose chairman Alan Gerrard formally handed over the keys for the building to club official Jason Simpson.
The bulk of the funding has come from a £120,000 grant from the EU-backed Leader programme.
Lord Thurso, who lives nearby, gifted the ground on which the hut sits.
It is to be maintained by a management committee made up of representatives of the rotary club and surfing and other watersports clubs.
Saturday’s event included a barbecue, a bonfire and music.
