Orkney residents turned out in their droves yesterday to attend a showcase of vehicles.
About 30 vehicles including tractors, cars and stationary engines were polished up and put on display outside Deerness Community Centre, for the community’s fourth annual Vintage Rally.
The event was organised in conjunction between the Orkney Vintage Club and the Durness Community Centre committee.
Simon Brown, a committee member for the centre and former chairman of the club, said: “It was very good, it wasn’t a brilliant day in terms of the weather but there were a lot of people here. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.
“The funds will be going towards the hall costs. This is just one of our money-raising ventures to keep the hall going.”
Attendees were given the opportunity to tour the vehicles being showcased before sitting down for a traditional afternoon tea.
Mr Brown says organising such events is a way that his group can provide for the local community.
He added: “It makes it all worthwhile because we are putting on something an awful lot of people want to come and see.
“It’s not just raising money for the hall, its putting on something the community and the public want to be a part of.”
Alan Scott, a member of the Orkney Vintage Club, said: “It’s always a bit of a worry in the days before it, with all the work that goes into it. But I’m quite pleased with the day and hopefully we will get the same again next year.”
