A body has been found in the search for a missing kayaker, after his kayak was found floating off the coast of Mull and Iona late last night.
The man, who has not been named, was found shortly before 11am this morning. The multi-agency search, coordinated by the Coastguard, has now been called off, and a report has been made to the police.
Last night, Stornoway Coastguard raised the alarm after reports of a kayaker who had been seen to leave the island of Erraid heading for Fionnphort on the Isle of Mull earlier in the evening.
However, his empty kayak -a red Valley Etain 17.5 kayak with a Lendal Nordkapp paddle – was spotted adrift in the Sound of Iona near to Fidden Farm campsite at 10.20pm.
A spokeswoman for the Coastguard said: “At 11.50am the Coastguard Rescue helicopter and the Oban RNLI Lifeboat located and recovered a person from the water.
