A multi-million pound sports centre proposed for Inverness has been renamed following the launch of a public appeal.
The former Inverness Snowsports Centre Association outlined ambitious plans earlier this year to construct a £5million sports complex on a vacant part of Torvean Quarry, offering attractions for all abilities.
The site has lain derelict and vacant for more than three decades, after work on the land ceased in 1989.
In an effort to find an appropriate name for the all-year round complex, the charity launched a public campaign at the beginning of the month, with residents voting Inverness Adventure Centre as their favourite.
Participants were given four shortlisted entries to choose from – the other three were Torvean Adventure Park (Tap), Inverness Adventure Centre, InVenture or The Inclines.
Project manager Helen Morgan said the charity was simply trying to find a name that “reflects the fact it is multi-activity.”
She added: “There’s going to be quiet areas where people can sit, viewpoints and improved paths so you don’t even have to do anything active.”
The impressive plans have outlined prospects for a number of attractions including tubing, high ropes, a zip-wire course and a series of mountain-biking trails as well as dry slopes for beginners to experts.
A visitor centre is also expected to be constructed on the site incorporating a public cafe and retail areas.
The charity, which will now trade under the public’s chosen name, are working towards correlating all the appropriate paperwork and surveys in preparation for lodging a request for planning approval to the Highland Council.
