A Highlands and Islands MSP has commended young cadets from across the region during a motion in the Scottish Parliament.
The Moray Company, 1st Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadet Force – which draws on youngsters from Elgin, Forres, Nairn, Ardersier and Culloden – was awarded the Champion Company for the third year running.
The organisation collected a number of trophies including male and female football trophies, shooting and best drill commander trophy during a recent summer camp.
And, as means of recognising their achievements, MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston submitted a motion in the Scottish Parliament .
The motion read: “That the Parliament congratulates Moray Company, 1st Battalion The Highlanders Army Cadet Force on being awarded Champion Company for the third year following their annual battalion camp, held this year in Cumbria; recognises the achievement of Moray’s cadets in being awarded this distinction; notes that 1 Battalion The Highlanders covers cadet forces across the Highland and Islands region with the Moray Company covering detachments in Elgin, Forres, Nairn, Ardersier and Culloden, and acknowledges the positive work and contribution of cadet forces in Moray and across the Highlands and Islands.”
Mr Halcro Johnston added: “It is always encouraging when we see examples of our young people working together so successfully.
“It takes real teamwork to achieve this level of distinction and all credit must go both to the cadets themselves, but also to all those who have encouraged and guided them.
“I know that the local community will be delighted by this news, particularly as Moray and Nairnshire has such a strong tradition of support for the armed forces.
“There will be many proud parents, friends and relatives across Moray, Nairnshire and beyond, who will be sharing the pride and pleasure of the cadets at this terrific news.”
