A fundraising party with a difference is calling on brides, grooms, and other party-goers to help raise cash for an important piece of medical equipment.

A Wedding Dress Ball will take place in Fort William later this year for anyone who fancies putting on their gladrags for a good cause.

The three women who are behind the idea – Deniel King, Michelle Purcell and Bonny Watkins – really wanted to help raise cash for the Belford Hospital after all losing parents to cancer.

They hope to raise £9,000 for a Moto Med, which helps people get moving after suffering a spinal injury.

Mrs King, 39, originally from Canada, said: “We have all lost parents to cancer and wanted to hold an event to raise money for the Belford, because we know how important quality care is, not just for the patient – but for peace of mind for friends and family as well.

“Although none of our parents received care from the Belford we know that the Belford has an excellent reputation for care and we all felt the staff and hospital deserved to be rewarded for all its hard work.

“Michelle and I both got married in 2018 and Bonny, who isn’t married, is a makeup artist working with lots of brides.

“It will be great fun for us to put on our wedding dresses and have a party.”

But she stressed the fundraiser is not just for brides and encouraged people to pull on their “one-off frocks” or finest suits for the occasion.

Mrs King said: “Anyone up for a bit of silly fun in that one-off frock or outfit that you don’t have an excuse to wear, whether it be bridal gown, bridesmaid’s dress, mother of the bride or groom outfit, and of course we would love to see lots of gents dressed in their finest as well.”

The event is taking place on Saturday, November 9. For tickets, visit the Wedding Dress Charity Ball Facebook page.
