Parents in Argyll and Bute are being urged to find out if their children qualify for free school meals.
To receive free school meals, parents must receive Income Support; Income Based Job Seekers Allowance; income related Employment and Support Allowance; Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit; Universal Credit; and/or support under Part VI of the Immigration and “Asylum Act 1999.
Councillor Yvonne McNeilly said: “We all want the best start in life for our children and young people, both in terms of their health and education.
“Evidence shows that school meals can help do this, by improving general health and helping to tackle health inequalities.
“There are a number of young people in Argyll and Bute who are eligible for free school meals but are not benefitting.
“It is vital that parents look into whether or not they are missing out on this opportunity.
“Not only do free school meals provide children with a healthy, balanced lunch, they help remove the pressures faced by some parents.”
