NHS Highland is currently seeking two new lay members to join its Highland health and social care committee to ensure the voices of service users are heard.
The committee, which meets six times each year, has outlined that experience of caring for a family member is a key attribute for one of the positions.
Ann Clark, chairwoman of the committee, said: “The committee has a wide range of responsibilities for health and social care services across the Highland Council area and it is essential that we have the public’s input to the decisions it makes.
“It is important to hear the views of the people who use our services alongside those of clinicians, managers and partners.
“I would encourage patients, carers and members of the public who have an interest in how we run NHS Highland to consider applying.”
Although the roles are voluntary posts, NHS Highland has committed to ensuring the appropriate travel and accommodation arrangements will be put in place to allow the new recruits to attend the three-hour-long afternoon meetings.
An induction programme and ongoing support will be provided to the successful candidates, with any necessary additional costs also reimbursed.
Michael Simpson, who is currently a lay member of the committee, said: “Successful applicants will read and comment on written reports and contribute to debate during committee meetings.
“However the most important qualification is an interest in improving health and social care services across the region.
“If you are passionate about Health and Social Care, feel you can contribute and have a voice on behalf of your community, please do apply for this position.”
