Brexit anxiety facing families from the EU, who have made their home in the north, has been laid bare in an email to a Highland MP.
Ross, Skye and Lochaber MP Ian Blackford shared a letter received from an EU citizen -who has decided he and his family need to leave the country – to highlight the impact of the UK Government’s Brexit plans.
Publishing part of the letter, Mr Blackford said: “I am not in the habit of sharing correspondence from constituents, but in this case, with agreement, I am making the following email public.
“We can ill afford to lose people from the Highlands and this saddens me greatly. ”
The constituent wrote: “I am, and remain convinced, that you will do everything in your power to stop this nonsense.
“For me, however, it is now too late, even as a dual citizen. I have made the very difficult – in fact, heart-breaking decision to leave…
“I cannot and will not support, with my taxes, my spending power and my work, paid or unpaid, a government which is so keen on destroying all the advantages won so hard since WWII.
“Our rights and freedoms mean a lot to us and I strongly object to them being taken from us without our consent – there is nothing democratic about that, it’s abuse.”
