A Skye community is appealing for support from across the Highlands as it enters the final days of a crowdfunding appeal to build new homes and a medical clinic.
Construction work on the Staffin affordable housing, health and business development is scheduled to start next year.
Staffin Community Trust (SCT) is currently trying to close a significant funding gap and raise money for the foundations of the new houses and walls and roof of the new clinic.
It would be the first affordable housing development in the community for 20 years – and could help bring younger people back to the area to tackle the declining population.
Councillor John Finlayson, chairman of Highland Council’s care, learning and housing committee is encouraging locals to support the appeal.
He said: “SCT is hopeful the new housing will help increase the school roll and the community’s long-term sustainability.
“If the community continues to lose its younger generation then Staffin risks irreversible decline.”
Mr Finlayson urged people to view an online video taken by the trust, and said: “Please take a moment to watch this short community film, and consider supporting new family homes and a health centre for the community.”
It can be found here.
The online appeal ends next Thursday.
