Police were called to an “incident” involving a lorry and a pedestrian on a busy Highland road yesterday.
Emergency services were called to a stretch of the A82 Inverness to Fort William road near Drumnadrochit at about 1.15pm, and the route was closed in both directions due to the “serious” nature.
UPDATE:
The road was closed to allow investigators to piece together the circumstances leading up to the crash, and motorists were forced to undertake a lengthy diversion to avoid the scene.
The diverted route consisted of a 26.5mile detour on the A833 Drumnadrochit to Balchraggan via Kiltarlity road before heading along the A862 to Inverness.
Members of the ambulance service were sent to the scene alongside police personnel.
One lane of the route was reopened around 6.15pm allowing motorists to pass along the banks of Loch Ness towards the Highland capital.
