A pedestrian has died after being hit by a lorry on a north road.
Emergency services were called to a stretch of the A82 Inverness to Fort William road near Drumnadrochit at about 1.15pm, and the route was closed in both directions as an investigation was launched.
Police have now confirmed that a pedestrian died in the incident, and said their family “was being advised”.
A spokesman for the force added that the investigation remained ongoing.
Ambulance crews attended but it is understood the casualty died at the scene.
The road was fully reopened at 8.15pm, with motorists were forced to undertake a lengthy diversion to avoid the scene until then.
The diverted route consisted of a 26.5-mile detour on the A833 Drumnadrochit to Balchraggan via Kiltarlity road before heading along the A862 to Inverness.
