Stornoway Coastguard's rescue helicopter joined the search.
A man reported missing in the Western Isles has been found safe and well.
The gentleman was reported missing after last being seen on the west side of Barra around 6.40pm this evening.
Emergency service from across the area were called to assist following reports of a missing person.
Police, fire and ambulance crews carried out an extensive search of the area alongside a number of local coastguard rescue teams, the coastguard helicopter and Barra Island Lifeboat, before standing down around 9pm.
A police spokeswoman said ‘inquiries remained ongoing’.
